Mr. Smith is in his second year at Heritage.
Mr. Smith instructs the marching band, Symphonic Band, Concert Bands, and jazz
band. He also teaches the AP music Theory class. Last year he served as the associate
director before being appointed to his current position.
Prior to coming to Heritage, Mr. Smith taught for five years at Memorial
Middle School in Conyers. Mr. Smith has received consistent superior ratings at
GMEA festival, The Carowinds Festival, and The Southern Star Music Festival,
including a sweepstakes award in 2006. Mr. Smith also directed the jazz band at
Memorial.
Mr. Smith holds a Bachelors and a Masters degree in Music
education from the University of Georgia. While at UGA Mr. Smith played saxophone
in various ensembles including wind symphony, jazz band, and the Redcoat
Marching band.
Mr. Smith is an active judge and clinician and also plays
with the Tara Winds Community Band. His professional affiliations include MENC,
GMEA, Phi Mu Alpha, and NBA.
Mr. Smith lives in Conyers with his wife
Susan.
