Tim
Hinton - Drill Designer and Music Arranger
www.timhinton.com

Tim Hinton
is an Orlando-based composer and arranger writing for middle
school, high school, and college concert and marching bands.
He was born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1960. Tim began playing the piano
in 2nd grade and joined the band in 4th grade playing the French
horn. Because of the inspiration of many excellent music teachers
and band directors, he decided to become a band director himself. He
received his Bachelor's degree in Music Education from the
University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and his Masters from Georgia
State University.
During college Tim had the
privilege of marching with the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps
of Rockford Illinois for three summers (1980-82). He also taught
marching with the corps during the 1983 season, learning many tricks
of drill writing and cleaning that still serve him well as a
consultant. Tim is especially proud to have won the DCI Individual
and Ensemble Competition on french horn in 1982, being the first
person in DCI history to receive a perfect score of 100 in
individual competition.
Tim taught in the public schools for 10
years and developed a highly successful program at Dunwoody High
School in Dunwoody, Georgia. While there his bands consistently
received superior ratings in concert and marching performances and
he is proud to have introduced his students to a great variety of
quality music. His marching productions at Dunwoody H.S. were
heralded for their creativity and originality. During those years
with a relatively small band Tim learned many tricks of arranging to
overcome weaknesses and showcase strengths. He firmly believes that
any band can have a very effective show under any
circumstances.
